Sophomores Soar As Hawks Fly to Victory Over Panthers

Sacramento, CA – The Hawks went into Tuesday's game facing a familiar opponent. This marks the third consecutive year in which CRC ended their season by playing Sacramento City College. The Hawks who have ended the last two seasons at Sacramento City College carried in a 2 game win streak against the Panthers in these games to end the season. CRC struggled in the first set, making too many errors which led to Sac City taking the first set 27-25.

Cosumnes River regrouped and subsequently kept the momentum to defeat the Panthers in three consecutive sets (25-17, 25-22, 25-18). The Hawks who were celebrating their sophomores were carried by four of their sophomore starters. Deziree McKee contributed 9 kills and had a monster night at the net. McKee picked up 2 solo blocks, and 8 combo blocks to propel herself to first in conference in total blocks during conference play. Ashanti Cason added 6 kills as well as combining for 4 combo blocks to help solidify the front line. Taryn Oberle led the teams with 15 kills and a .500 kill percentage. Abigail Hicks totaled 21 digs which put her just 2 digs short of being in a tie for first in conference. Kaiulani Smith came in to score a kill for the 24th point and with a strong serve caused a Sac City error to finish the season for the Hawks.

The Hawks end their season in 6th place in conference. This marks a 4th season in a row in which Head Coach Kari Nahlen has improved the season record from the previous season. CRC ended the season with a 13-15 record.
