Shanice Butler aka Coach Beast, is excited to enter her first year as an assistant coach with Consumnes River College Women’s Basketball Program. Coach Beast will assist with scouting, skill development and recruitment. 

 

Coach Beast was born and raised in South Sacramento and graduated from Kennedy High School in 2010. Coach Beast helped the Cougars to a     30-5 record, including a 11-1 conference mark. Led the team in both scoring and rebounding, while posting a team-high 27 blocks and recording 55 steals. Scored a season-high 24 points against Windward on Dec. 30, 2009. Coach Beast played Varsity all 4 years and earned a full ride basketball scholarship to Central Arizona Community College (CAC).

 

Coach Beast played two seasons at Central Arizona for for head coach Denise "Gooch" Cardenas, and becomes the 120th women''s basketball player to move on from CAC to Division I.


Coach Beast helped Central Arizona to a 31-3 overall mark, including a perfect 20-0 season in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference season. CAC won the District A championship before finishing fourth in the NJCAA National Championships. As a freshman, CAC went 27-7 in 2010-11, placing second in the ACCAC and advancing to the second round of the 16-team NJCAA tournament. Coach Beast graduated in 2012 with her AA in generals studies and earned a position on the Deans List for her high academic achievement.

 

Coach Beast then received a second full ride scholarship to The University of the Pacific in Stockton CA. As a Junior (2012-2013), Coach Beast appeared in 30 games for Pacific and connected on four-for-four from the field in her debut at Seattle (Nov. 9) for 10 points. Added a 10-point game against CSU Bakersfield (Dec. 31), logging a season-high 17 minutes. Scored a career-high 15 points against Cal State Fullerton (Feb. 21) as she sunk six of 10 shots and was a perfect three-for-three from the free throw line. Grabbed a season-high five rebounds in the third round of the WNIT against Utah (March 28). Registered four blocks on the year, including two against CSU Bakersfield (Dec. 31). Tallied nine steals, including multiple steals in three games. Of her 52 rebounds, 26 came on the offensive glass.

 

As a Senior, Coach Beast appeared in 24 games for Pacific and shot 50 percent from the field on the season, 27-of-54 ; 29 of her 53 rebounds came on the offensive glass. Scored a career-high 14 points against Notre Dame de Namur (Nov. 30) while tying a career-best with six rebounds. Also grabbed six boards against UC Davis (Nov. 11). Scored 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting against Santa Clara (Feb. 20) while tying her career-high with six rebounds again. Added 12 points off the bench against Fordham (Nov. 17) with six rebounds. Coach Beast graduated in 2014 with her BA in Liberal Studies.

 

Currently Coach Beast is in education as a 1:1 sign language aide, substitute teacher (for all ages) and referee for Court-side Basketball. In her free time Coach Beast loves spending time with her daughter Raven Thompson, family and friends.
