American River College could not avoid the sweep on Saturday, as they lost 3-2 to the #4 ranked Cosumnes River College Hawks.  CRC got on the board early with a two-run, two-out single off of starter Tommy Balmain (Oakmont).  The Hawks scored in the first inning of all three games last week.  The Beavers closed the gap with a run in the 2nd inning on a Brandon Raposa (Woodcreek) fly ball to center, which scored 3B Austin Call (Oakmont).  The Beavers tied it up in the 7th on a Cameron Bennett (Rio Linda) line drive single to center which scored Raposa on a close play at the plate.  Balmain pitched out of a jam in the 5th inning when CRC had runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out, but Balmain struck out  the 3 and 4 hitters in the order to end the threat.  He couldn't escape the jam that he put himself into in the 7th inning however.  He hit the first two batters of the inning, then got the Hawks leadoff batter to pop up a sac bunt attempt then struck out CRC SS Andre Gregory.  CRC CF Alex Fitchett then doubled on the first pitch he saw down the left field line to score the go-ahead run which would be enough for the win.

The Beavers will spend Spring Break facing Modesto JC beginning on Tuesday at 2:30 at Beaver Field.  The Beavers will travel to Modesto on Thursday, then the Pirates will return to Beaver Field on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
