Falcons defeat CRC, 2-0 to advance to Big 8 Championship match

The Folsom Lake women's soccer team continued their march toward a Big 8 Championship with a solid 2-0 victory over Cosumnes River on Tuesday, thereby advancing to Friday's Championship match against San Joaquin Delta.  The Falcons appeared to dominate possession time but were again thwarted from scoring a first-half goal as the teams battled through a scoreless first 45 minutes.  Ten minutes into the second half, Annette Medina broke the scoring drought with her 8th goal of the season to put the Falcons ahead 1-0, assisted by Avery Pieri.  The Falcons then added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute on a brilliant shot by sophomore Nyah Attaway to the left corner of the goal from 25 yards out, assisted by Kaidin James.

The Falcon defense was so dominant that goalkeeper Grace Filiau commented, "I really should get credit for a shutout; I didn't even have to touch thye ball!"  It was the Falcons' ninth consecutive match without allowing a goal and 15th shutout of the season.

With the win the Falcons (16-0-2 overall, 10-0 in Big 8) advance to Big 8 Conference Championship match against San Joaquin Delta (16-2-2 overall, in 7-1-2 Big 8).  The Mustangs advanced on a Penalty Kick shootout after tying with Sierra, 1-1, on Tuesday.
