HOME OF THE AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS

Beavers look sloppy in loss to CRC

American River College did just about everything wrong on Tuesday and paid for it by losing 10-4 to #4 Cosumnes River College at CRC.  Sophomore starter Matt Gunter (Bella Vista) lasted just 1+ inning, allowing 6 runs, 5 earned, and walked in two runs with the bases loaded in the 2nd inning.  Reliever Christian Savage (Cosumnes Oaks) came on in relief and was effective for 4 2/3 innings, but also walked in a run in the 2nd inning.  The Beavers defense was also sloppy, SS Cameron Bennett (Rio Linda) made 2 errors, both on double play balls and LF Austin Call (Oakmont) dropped a line drive in the first inning that led to a run.  Base running was no different as the Beavers made several mistakes on the base path that led to easy outs for the Hawks.  Offensively, A.R.C. only struck out three times, but twice were with runners in scoring position and less than two outs, which cost the Beavers at least 2 runs.

On the bright side, 1B Kirby Broadbent (Oakmont) hit his first collegiate home run, a solo shot in the 4th inning that got the Beavers on the board.  He also hit a sac fly in the 5th inning to take over the team RBI from sophomore Jimmy Lunardelli ( Oakmont) who is out with a hand injury.  2B Steve Mercado (Antelope), C Bryan Babcock (Antelope) and RF Alex Gaskin (Jesuit) all added doubles on the day.

The teams meet again on Thursday at Beaver Field for game 2 of the 3 game series at 2:30 p.m.
