Hawks Fall in Opening Round of MJC Classic

MODESTO (12-6) – The Hawks opened their time at the 81st Annual MJC Classic hosted by Modesto Junior College as they took on CCCMBCA #15 Fresno City College. The Rams topped the Hawks 95-72.

In the first half, the Hawks found themselves playing from behind the entire way. Despite good shot selection, efficient shooting percentage from the field, and 81% shooting from the free throw line, the Hawks struggled on the defensive end to keep the Rams at bay. Fresno took a 48-33 lead into the half.

The second half mirrored much of the first half play. The Hawks competed the entire contest but the deficit was too much for a comeback.

Cosumnes River lost two players to season-ending injuries in this game as Kenneth Cooley broke his hand and Terrell Garner broke his foot.

Paul Ohiri had 20 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists, Marcus Robinson had 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals, Khari Hutt had 12 points and Drew Buggs had 10 points for the Hawks

The next game for the Hawks is tomorrow as they will take on Folsom Lake College.
