Wolverines Win Close Game Over Hawks

SACRAMENTO (1-15) – Cosumnes River came home to take on Sierra College at Clark Court. The Wolverines won a closely contested game 86-79.

In their last game, the Hawks won 70-46 over Modesto Junior College in Modesto on Friday while the Wolverines lost 95-78 to Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa on Friday.

In the first half, the Hawks struggled to hold the Wolverines from scoring. The Hawks found themselves playing from behind but stayed within striking distance. Khari Hutt hit some tough shots to keep the Hawks relatively close. The Wolverines led 45-36 at halftime.

The second half was much of the same story. The Hawks continued to play from behind but remained on the doorstep of taking the lead. The Hawks would come as close as one on two occasions; the second occasion at 69-68 with 6:28 left. In the last five minutes of regulation, Sierra scored on three possessions right before the shot clock expired. Those baskets gave the Wolverines enough cushion to secure the win.

The loss ended the Hawks' two game win streak.

Paul Ohiri had a double-double with twenty-two points and fourteen rebounds. Ohiri also had one steal and one block. Marcus Robinson also had a double-double with twenty points and twelve rebounds, three assists and one steal. Hutt had seventeen points, two rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block and  Brandon Gray had eleven points.

The Hawks will have their next two games on the road. The next game for the Hawks is Friday as they take on American River College at 5:30 pm in Sacramento.
