Hawks Get Boost from Bench in Win Over Vikings

PLEASANT HILL (1-25) – The Hawks traveled to Pleasant Hill to take on Diablo Valley College. The Hawks defeated the Vikings 72-59 for their second consecutive win.

In the first half, play began with the Hawks pressuring in the full court. The Hawks were getting stops, but they were struggling to score despite good looks at the basket. As the game continued, the Hawks' starters were finding themselves in foul trouble. Samuel Cota, Sean Granucci and Keilen Valdry entered the game with starters Brandon Gray and Paul Ohiri. Over the remaining four minutes of the half, the Hawks went on a 17-4 run. Cota hit a buzzer beating three pointer to cap the run as the Hawks led 34-22 at halftime.

In the second half, the Hawks started the half with a 10-4 run over the first four minutes to force a Vikings' timeout. The highlight of the run was a follow-up two-handed dunk by Ohiri in transition. The Hawks' biggest lead of the night was 19 points. From there, the Hawks remained in control. In the last five minutes of the game, the Vikings made a last push and drilled three straight three pointers to trim the Hawks' lead to twelve. The Hawks held on for a 74-59 road victory.

Ohiri had twelve points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal, Marcus Robinson had twelve points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal, Sean Granucci had eleven points, one assists and one steal and Khari Hutt had ten points, two rebounds, five assists and four steals.

The next game for the Hawks will be Tuesday as they take on Folsom Lake College in Sacramento at 7:30 pm.
