MONTEREY, Calif.- The Cosumnes River softball team emerged from the opening weekend of the 2015 season 2-2, following a strong showing in the Monterey Peninsula tournament this past weekend.  The Hawks took a pair of wins over Coast South power Cabrillo, as sophomore pitcher Amanda Horbasch (Roseville, Calif./Woodcreek) threw a no-hitter in the finale to earn her second victory of the season.

Horbasch closed out the tournament with a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, throwing seven no hit innings to lead the Hawks past Cabrillo in a pitcher's duel, 1-0.  The Roseville native scattered three walks while striking out 11, earning her second victory of the young season.  Horbasch improves to 2-0, and lowered her ERA to 2.00 in her second start. 

The victory was her second in two days, following the Hawks 7-4 victory over host Monterey Peninsula in the tournament opener.  Horbasch scattered 10 hits and four runs over seven strong innings, striking out nine, as the CRC played small ball to take their 2015 opener.  The Hawks scored seven runs on six hits, and took advantage of eight MPC walks.  Sophomore third baseman Hanna Miller went 1-3, knocking in two runs while scoring one of her own, to pace the Hawks bats.

Cosumnes River closed out Friday's games with a difficult 3-2 loss against Cabrillo.  CRC took an early lead in the top of the 4^th, before Cabrillo answered to tie the game at one following four innings of play.  Cabrillo scored another run in the bottom of the 5^th to take a 2-1 advantage, but it would be short-lived, as the Hawks answered in the next frame to tie the contest at two apiece.  The Seahawks would score again however, in the 6^th and final frame, as Cabrillo handed Cosumnes River their first loss of the 2015 season.

CRC opened Saturday's action with a 5-2 loss to San Bernardino, before playing to a weekend split that afternoon against Cabrillo.  Cosumnes River committed three errors in the game, leading to four unearned SBVC runs, putting the Hawks in a big hole early.  Second baseman Kaitlin Pires led the CRC offense, going 3 for 4 on the day, scoring a run.

Cosumnes River hits the road for a doubleheader against San Jose City College this Thursday.  They'll return home Saturday for a pair of games.  The Hawks host Sequoias in their home opener at 10 AM, before closing out the afternoon against Monterey Peninsula in a contest scheduled for 2 PM.
