Party at the Plate Extends Hawks’ Win Streak to Five Games

The Cosumnes River College (CRC) Hawks won two blowouts Thursday against Ohlone College, improving their record to 9-5 on the season. The Hawks scored 23 runs in total on Thursday in addition to shutting out Ohlone on the day in front of the home crowd. The Hawks offensive explosion was led by three freshmen, Leandra Coronado (Elk Grove, CA / Monterey Trail HS), Mckinzie Spriggs (Galt, CA / Galt HS), and Alyssa Pinto (Lodi, CA / Lodi HS).

Coach Schroeder was very happy with how the team played on Thursday as she said "we played well, our pitchers threw well. Everyone swung the bat well today. It was good to get out of there in five innings in both games to save pitching for the beginning of conference play. Leandra had a lot of nice hits, she was working well up the middle."

The Hawks won game one 12-0 via mercy rule after five innings. Pinto went 1-2 in game one with three runs batted in. Spriggs had two doubles in three at bats as well as three RBI for the Hawks. Becky Pedersen (Ukiah, CA / Ukiah HS), who started in the circle for the Hawks, was 2-2 at the plate, giving herself some run support as she had two RBI. In the circle, Pedersen was electric allowing only two hits in three innings en route to her fourth win of the season. Danielle Pfennig (Lodi, CA / Lodi HS) recorded her first save of the season as she pitched two innings allowing only two hits.

Game two was a similar story to that of game one. Coronado had a phenomenal game for the Hawks as she had four hits in as many at bats with four RBI to go along. Spriggs had another multi-hit game as she belted her second home run of the season and added on three RBI. Audrey Brookins (Galt, CA / Liberty Ranch HS) was dominant in the circle as she fashioned a complete game shutout, going five innings, allowing only two hits while striking out two earning her third win of the season.

The Hawks will look to ride the momentum from Thursday's wins as they look forward to a double header against San Joaquin Delta College on Saturday, February 22nd.
