Hawks Finish Season with Win Over Beavers

SACRAMENTO (2-19) – The Hawks played their final game of the regular season as they took on American River College. The Hawks honored four sophomores - Sheniah Castex, Micaela Dagler, Brookelyn Larkin and Alexia Liddell. The Hawks won 74-71 over the Beavers.

Both the Hawks and the Beavers got off to a slow start as both teams shot a combined 11-37 from the field in the first quarter. The Hawks' pressure on defense and sharp shooting by Arionna Butts and Castex helped the Hawks lead 38-30 at halftime. 

In the third quarter, the Hawks would extend their lead. With 5:36 left in the quarter, Larkin scored her fourteenth point of the game which marked her one-thousandth of her career. A timeout was called by the Hawks as signs where held up by the fans congratulating Larkin on her accomplishment. The Hawks led 60-42 at the end of the third quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, both teams began to find themselves in foul trouble. The sharp shooting the Hawks had found earlier in the game suddenly went cold and the Beavers found themselves hitting shot after shot. The game came down to the wire - and to free throws. Fortunately, the Hawks knocked down free throws down the stretch and won 74-71.

Larked ended the game with twenty-two points and six rebounds. Castiex had a double double with eighteen points and eleven rebounds. Castiex had five steals. Butts added twenty points. 

The Hawks ended the season on a win going 5-11 in Big 8 Conference play and 9-18 overall.

Head Coach Coral Sage said, "Our freshmen got a lot of game experience this year which will go a long way come next season. There were a lot of learning curves this year but we are optimistic about next year. We are looking forward to getting back on top of the conference and getting back to making playoffs once again."
