Las Positas Tops Hawks Late

SACRAMENTO (8-30) - Cosumnes River played their second match of the season this afternoon as they took on Las Positas College. Las Positas scored in stoppage time of the second half to win 1-0.

Both teams were coming off wins in their last match. The Hawks won 6-2 over Solano Community on Tuesday in Sacramento while Las Positas won 2-1 over Irvine Valley College on Sunday in Livermore

In the first half, the two teams played back and forth soccer with both teams withstanding the 100 degree temperature. Brianna Heilman had the final chance of the half for the Hawks but her shot went just wide of the net. The two teams were tied at 0-0 at the halftime intermission.

In the second half, the match was played primarily in the offensive zone for Las Positas. Las Positas had nine shots in the second half and three shots on frame. The two teams entered stoppage time tied at 0-0. With mere seconds remaining in stoppage time, Azariah Douglas scored for Las Positas giving Las Positas a 1-0 lead. Las Positas won the match 1-0 and sent the Hawks to their first defeat of the season.

Alexis Brown and Jessey Santos both had two shots apiece to lead the Hawks while for Las Positas, Kaasa Kamrie had a match high four shots. Elle Ray got the win for Las Positas while Shelby Hand got the loss for the Hawks. Cosumnes River outshot Las Positas 12-7 and Las Positas had two more corner kicks (3-1) than did Cosumnes River.

The Hawks will have their next match on Wednesday as they will take on Evergreen Valley College in San Jose. Kickoff is set for 5:30 pm.
