Wolverines Top Hawks

SACRAMENTO (10-10) - Cosumnes River returned home for the first of two matches at CRC Soccer Field as they took on Sierra College. The Wolverines used two second half goals to defeat the Hawks 3-0.

In their last match, the Hawks won 4-1 over Sacramento City College last Tuesday in Sacramento while the Wolverines tied 0-0 with Diablo Valley College on Friday in Rocklin.

In the first half, the two teams would play back and forth soccer for a majority of the half. The last chance for the Hawks to score came with 17:20 remaining in the half on a Analissa Lopez kick but her shot was saved by Wolverines' goalkeeper Jamie Goodwin. With 8:26 left in the first half, the Wolverines would get on the scoreboard on a Emma Mason goal. The Wolverines led 1-0 at the halftime intermission.

In the second half, the Wolverines would get on the scoreboard first. With 27:34 left, Mason would score another goal to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead. The Wolverines would add their final tally of the afternoon on a penalty kick by Madeline Morrison with 13:42 left to give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead.

Katrina Vina had two shots to lead the Hawks and Lashaa Robinzine had a match high three shots to lead the Wolverines. Goodwin got the win for the Wolverines and Shelby Hand got the loss for the Hawks. Sierra outshot Cosumnes River 9-3 while the Wolverines had two more corner kicks (5-3) than did the Hawks.

The Hawks will have their next match on Friday as they host Diablo Valley College in Big 8 Conference play in Sacramento. Kickoff is set for 3:30 pm.
