Stockton, CA- Cosumnes River College kicked off its season with a doubleheader against Solano College and Yuba College at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton.

This matchup has been a mainstay in the schedule for the Hawks for the last few years. San Joaquin Delta College and Cosumnes River College alternate opponents, but do not end up facing each other since they face off two times during conference play.

The Hawks started off their doubleheader by taking on Solano. Despite a slow start, Cosumnes River staged a comeback they were unable to overcome the deficit and lost the first set 25-21. During set two, the Hawks started off strong but were unable to keep their momentum as they fell to Solano 25-18. The third set saw the Hawks' energy level go up and down. Despite having a late lead, the Hawks couldn't pull out the victory by a score of 25-23.

For their second match of the evening, Cosumnes River took on Yuba. Having been a resident of Yuba City, Coach Kari Post-Nahlen had her squad ready to play. The Hawks stormed out to a lead and didn't relinquish that lead by taking set one with the score of 25-20. After making some adjustments during intermission, the Hawks showed off the hard work they have been putting in over the summer. The team combined for a rout of the 49ers 25-12 during the second set. The third set saw the Hawks' intensity level drop in the beginning before the Hawks woke up. After overcoming a deficit, the Hawks continued to fight for the set victory of 25-22, and the match victory of 3-0.

Quote of the Night:

"It was good being able to finally play some games that counted. The girls were excited to start the season and compete against someone besides themselves. We played well and it was great to be able to see who rose to the occasion and who wanted the ball every play. Kylie and Abby had a great start to their seasons and we expect them to carry this momentum into the next games and the rest of their season. It is always nice to have true freshmen that come in and aren't phased by a bigger competition than they had in high school. I'm excited to see what they can do to make Friday's games better than today's start. Kylie not only had a good amount of kills but seeing her do so in such an effective manner is encouraging to see. Abby was solid all night for us on the defensive end. She kept us in more plays than we expected and we look forward to get even better as she grows more comfortable in the position."
