Hawks Fall to #19 Santa Rosa in Four

SANTA ROSA (9-19) - For the fourth straight match, Cosumnes River took to the road as they took on Santa Rosa Junior College in the second game of their conference schedule.

In the first set, the Hawks stormed out to a quick lead against the Bear Cubs. After a small lull, the Hawks regrouped to take the set 25-21. Elizabeth Smith and Taryn Oberle led the team with four kills apiece. Rebakkah McLaughlin contributed three kills as well as nine assists, and four digs during the first set.  

The second set saw lots of short runs for both teams with both teams competing for the lead. The Hawks combined for twenty-seven digs and eleven kills during the second set. Kylie Pires led the Hawks offense with four kills. Oberle and Ashlee Dandeneau followed close behind with three and two kills respectively.  McLaughlin had nine assists as well as ten digs during the closely contested second set. Ultimately the Hawks fell 26-24 to the Bear Cubs in the second set.

In the third set, the Hawks and Bear Cubs started off by alternating points to begin the set. Having a home court advantage, Santa Rosa took a lead of 21-13. After an effective timeout by Coach Kari Nahlen, the Hawks rallied to end the set. However, the gap was a little too large to overcome and the Hawks fell 25-21 despite ending the set on an 8-4 run. Oberle once again paced the Hawk offense with five kills on eight swings. Dandeneau and Pires anchored the defense with four and three digs.

Heading into the fourth set, the Hawks had momentum. Storming out to a five point lead, the Hawks were unable to overcome the home court advantage by Santa Rosa. The Hawks' offense struggled in the fourth set, unable to catch up leading to a 25-20 loss. Ashanti Cason had three kills followed by Pires' two kills.
