SACRAMENTO (12-7) – Cosumnes River played their second game of the season as they took on Butte College in Sacramento. The Roadrunners outscored the Hawks by twenty-one in the second quarter and won 76-39.
In the first quarter, the Roadrunners started the game on a 11-4 run capped by a Kelsey Zelenski three pointer with 2:04 left. The Roadrunners led 13-8 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Hawks would come as close as six, at 16-10, on a Mekkah Pharr jumper with 8:47 left in the half. From that point, the Roadrunners would go on a 21-0 run, capped by a Tati Osa three point play, to gain a 37-10 lead. The Roadrunners led 39-13 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Roadrunners would extend their lead. The Hawks would come as close as twenty-six, at 41-15, on a Suraya Cabrera layup with 7:35 left in the quarter. The Roadrunners would gain their largest lead of the quarter at thirty-four, at 52-18, on a Lena Fogle three pointer with 3:44 left in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Roadrunners would continue to extend their lead. The Roadrunners gained their largest lead of the ballgame at forty, at 76-36, on a Tessa Kinney layup with fifty seconds left.
Melanie Mar had eleven points for the Hawks. Fogle had a game high twenty points for the Roadrunners. Malia Clark had ten and Cabrera had eight for the Hawks.
The Hawks shot 24.1% (14-58) from the field, 14.3% (3-21) from the three-point line and were 61.5% (8-13) from the free throw line. The Roadrunners shot 47.4% (27-57) from the field, 45.8% (11-24) from the three-point line and 73.3% (11-15) from the foul line. Cosumnes River's defense forced twenty-three Roadrunner turnovers while the Roadrunners' defense forced twenty-four turnovers. Butte outrebounded Cosumnes River 45-33 and the Roadrunners had thirteen more points off turnovers (32-19) than did the Hawks.
The next game for the Hawks will be Wednesday December 22nd as they start Big 8 Conference play against Folsom Lake College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm
