HAWKS GO 1-2 IN SERIES AGAINST SANTA ROSA

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  The Hawks faced Santa Rosa three times in 4 days, April 2nd, 3rd, and the 5th.  Two of these games were played at home for the Hawks.  CRC is 6-7 at home this year and 12-3 away.  With that being said, they won the close match up on the road 3-2 in extra innings. 

The Hawks seemed to lack in hits during the two games they lost.  In game one they had 5 hits, and in game 2 they had 9, and in game 3 they had 6.  Wednesday April 2nd the first match up was not a strong day for the Hawks and they fell to Santa Rosa 5-0 at home. From the mound the Hawks would have a total of 5 pitchers pitch: Kyle Von Ruden, Zach Mahon, Ian Chandler, Jordan Koch, and Thomas Hummer.  Von Ruden would pitch the majority of the game, pitching 6 innings, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs, and also having 3 strikeouts.  Santa Rosa had two pitchers see the field: Kyle Mitchell and JJ Jamerson. Mitchell would pitch the majority of the game, pitching 7 innings, allowing 3 hits and 0 runs, with 8 strikeouts.  From the plate the Hawks would have one double from Nathan Ahlers.  In the top of the 4th, Dane Erbst of Santa Rosa would lined out to center field, scoring Phil Ramos, putting the Bear Cubs up 1-0.  Later in the inning, the Hawks would have an error, allowing Weston Bryan to score, making it 2-0.  Next inning in the top of the 5th, Matt LoCoco would hit a home run, stretching the lead to 3-0.  Two innings later Bryan grounds out sacrificing himself to bring LoCoco home for the score, making it 4-0.  Finally in the last inning, top of the 9th, The Bear Cubs, Chase Stafford hits a home run making the final score 5-0. 

The next day the Hawks would travel to Santa Rosa for Game 2 against the Bear Cubs.  From the mound, the Hawks would have two pitchers see the field: Zach Stilwell, and Joshua Pigg (pictured right).  Stilwell would start the game, pitching 4.1 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 runs, and recording 2 strikeouts.  Pigg would relieve him and come in to pitch the next 6.2 innings, allowing only 1 hit and 0 runs, and finishing the day with 8 strikeouts.  Pigg had a great day and helped the Hawks close out this win 3-2 in 11 innings.  The Bear Cubs would have three pitchers see the field: Brandon Hagerla, Vijay Patel, and Anthony Bender.  Hagerla would pitch most of the game, pitching 6 innings, allowing 9 hits, 2 runs, and recording only 2 strikeouts.  The Hawks would go down early in this one 2-0, in the bottom of the 2nd inning, when Anthony Bend hit a home run, scoring himself and Dane Erbst.  However, the Hawks did not give up, three innings later in the top of the 5th inning, they answered with two scores.  Josh Cosio singled to left field, bringing Adam Castelan and Logan Marston home for the score.  Both teams would not let up for the next 6 innings, playing great defense.  Until the top of the 11th inning rolled around and the Bear Cubs Shortstop, Phil Ramos recorded an error, advancing Austin Friello home for the win in what was a close match up, 3-2. 

Two days later Santa Rosa would come back to CRC to face the Hawks for the game three - tie breaker.  The Hawks were out matched in this game losing by a final score of 6-1.  The Hawks would have 5 pitchers see the field: David Smith, Shane Martin, Kasey Chapan, Zach Mahon, and Thomas Hummer.  Smith would play most of the game for 6 innings, allowing 6 hits and 0 runs, and leaving with 2 strikeouts. Martin was up next to the mound, and he would pitch the next 2 innings allowing 2 hits and 3 runs, with 1 strikeout.  Chapan was next up for the Hawks, and he would pitch just one innings, allowing 2 hits and 3 runs, with 0 strikeouts.  From the mound for the Bear Cubs was Brett Obranovich and Anthony Bender.  Obranovich pitched 7 innings, allowing 6 hits and 1 run, and ending the day with 1 strikeout, and advancing his pitching record to 5-0.  In this match up the Hawks would strike first in the bottom of the 4th inning when Hunter Carolan grounded out to 3rd base, advancing Pigg home for the score.  However that was the last the Hawks would score for the rest of the game.  The Bear Cubs answered in the top of the 7th inning when Matt LoCoco homered, bringing two runs home; himself and Dylan Eterovich home for the score, making it 2-1.  Two innings later in the top of the 9th inning the Bear Cubs exploded on offense, scoring 4 runs.  However it was to little to late for the Hawks to make a last inning rally, ending game three 6-1, and the series 2-1, Bear Cubs.  

The Hawks are now 18-10 overall, 6-7 in the conference, ranking them 7th in the Big 8.  The Hawks look to bounce back in the next two match ups against Diablo Valley College.
