Hawks Shutout Gladiators

SACRAMENTO (2-12) - Cosumnes River played their second game of a five game homestand as they took on Chabot College in Sacramento. The Hawks allowed five hits by the Gladiators and won 5-0.

In their last game, the Hawks won 6-2 over Lassen College in Sacramento on Thursday while the Gladiators lost 9-8 to Fresno City College in Fresno on Saturday.

Burle Dixon would get the Hawks on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning. Dixon was hit by a pitch. He would subsequently steal second and third base before being driven in by JD Mico.

The Hawks would not score again until the bottom of the seventh inning when Greg Creamer would walk to start the inning. Pinch runner Clay Duval would advance Creamer on a ground ball to second base. Jeremy Kolb would single to drive in Duval and would advance to second on a defensive error. Kolb's hit was followed by back-to-back RBI doubles by Dixon and Jorge Montoya. Dixon would steal third base again and was driven in on a sacrifice fly by Mico.

Josh Caldwell got the start for the Hawks on the mound. Caldwell went four innings and struck out six batters. Joe Pankratz came on in relief and went three innings. Brian Freitas worked the final innings for the combined shutout. The Hawks pitching staffs' first of the year.

Pankratz got the win for the Hawks and Mark Turnquist got the loss for Gladiators.

The next game for the Hawks will start a three-game series against College of the Sequoias on Saturday at Conway Field. First pitch is set for 2 pm.
