LUIS ACOSTA NAMED CRC'S STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

SACRAMENTO, Calif.-  Luis Acosta (Sacramento, Calif./CK McClatchy), a freshman midfielder for the Cosumnes River men’s soccer team, has been named CRC’s Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of September 29-October 5.  This is the first time Acosta has received the honor this season.

Acosta scored an early goal against undefeated Modesto JC last Friday to put pressure on the Pirates, setting the tone early for a 1-1 draw.  The goal was Acosta’s second of the season, tying him for third-place on the Hawks this season.  He also helped lead the Hawks to a 3-2 victory over Delta earlier in the week on the road.  The CRC men’s soccer team is undefeated in their last two matches, and is currently in third place in the Big 8 conference standings.

This is Acosta’s first time receiving the Student-Athlete of the Week award, as well as the second for the men’s soccer team.  Juan Pablo Cruz earned the award earlier last month in the beginning of September.  The Hawks return to play today on the road in Visalia, where they will take on Sequoias.  They’ll return home on Friday when they will play host to Taft.  That match is scheduled to begin at 4 PM.
