Hawks Find Themselves on Both Ends of Walk-offs in a Wild Opening Day

MONTEREY, CALI - 

Game 1: It was a wild opening day for the Hawks as they traveled to Monterey Peninusla College for the opening weekend of the 2018 Softball Season.  The Hawks led throughout smashing 10 hits and 3 doubles.  With a 3-0 lead heading into the 7th inning, the Hawks looked to finish off MPC.  However, with an INF error and a misplayed comebacker up the middle, the Hawks gave up 4 in the bottom of the 7th that led to the walk-off loss.

In the loss, Amber Wright, Korina Krueg, and Taelor Ford each had 2 hits including a 2B by Ford.  Montaie went 7 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 ER in the loss.

Game 2: Following a tough loss, the Hawks were back on the field for the 2nd game of the opening day doubleheader against Feather River.  Feather River got on the scoreboard first with 2 runs.  Cosumnes River answered with 4 of their own led by capped by Cecilia Rivera's double to centerfield scoring Veronica Smith and Ashlee Kaiser.  The game went to extra innings.where the Hawks won on a walkoff single by Rivera.  

In addition to the walk-off single, Rivera ended up 2 for 4 for 3 RBI.  Smith, Kaiser and Kylee Boykin each added 2 hits.  Ashleigh Berg was terrific in the circle scattering 7 hits over 8 innings for the win.
