Hawks Open the Season with Three Wins in Monterey

The Cosumnes River Hawks softball team opened the season by going 3-1 at the Monterey Peninsula Lobo Classic (MPC). The Hawks beat the hosts twice, 11-3 and 4-2, while splitting with Feather River College.

The Hawks were led by dominant pitching throughout the weekend.  Sophomore Tatiana Blas posted two victories, Friday against MPC and Saturday over Feather River. Blas had 10 strikeouts in the win over the Lobos giving up only two earned runs. Versus Feather River, Blas was equally tough. She again struck out 10 Lobos to finish the weekend with a second win. Sophomore A.J. Dahdouh has even more strikeouts throughout the tournament. In a tight 4-2 win over MPC on Saturday, Dahdouh fanned 10 batters, and even in a Friday loss to Feather River, she struck out 13 Golden Eagles.

Offensively, CRC had several players shine over the weekend. In the first win against MPC, the Hawks were led by Avery Jolly who went 3-4 and scored three runs. Malia Babasa went 3-3 in a loss to Feather River, while Kalie Toy helped CRC bounce back versus the Golden Eagles going 2-3 with a run scored in a 7-2 win. In the final game versus MPC, Dahdouh led the way with three hits while Eden Hobart went 2-3 to help seal the win.

The Hawks are back in action Tuesday, January 30 for their home opener against Butte College.
