Hawks Split on the Road with San Jose

In its first true road test of the year, the Cosumnes River College softball team split with host San Jose City College. The Hawks took game one, 5-3 and lost 6-2 in the second.

Tatiana Blas earned her sixth win of the season against the Jaguars going the full seven innings. She struck out seven despite giving up her highest run total of the season. Abigail Woodfill had two doubles on her way to a 3-4 game at the plate. She and Emily Johnson both drove in two runs for the Hawks. Johnson and Malia Babasa both had two hits while Avery Jolley scored two runs.

Game two remained tight until the bottom of the third when San Jose City broke through for a run. In the top of the fourth, the Hawks bounced back to take the lead 2-1 on runs by Layla Towner and Sarah Babby. However, CRC could not hold the lead as the Jaguars pounced on pitcher AJ Dahdouh to score five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Despite 10 hits, including two from Babasa and Towner, the Hawks could not plate another run.

"I was happy the way we came out in game one. We had timely hitting and Tatiana had another good game in the circle for us," commented head coach Kristy Schroeder. "In game two we hit the ball well, but San Jose came up with some big plays. We needed to play more solid on defense to win the game."

CRC returns to action on Thursday, February 22 for a make-up double-header at Reedley College followed by match-ups with Fresno City College and College of San Mateo on Saturday, February 24.
