Hawks Win Two Thrillers Over Sierra

The 10th-ranked Consumnes River College (CRC) softball team walked off Sierra College twice on Friday 8-7 and 3-2. The wins improve CRC's record to 29-7 on the season and helps them remain in second place in the Big 8 Conference at 16-4.

"It was an awesome day. Our team had great energy. The energy we need to have every time we play," said head coach Kristy Schroeder. "AJ really competed in that second game, and we just really battled all day and showed a lot of grit to come out with those two wins."

The Hawks jumped out to an early lead in game one scoring twice in the first inning and adding four more runs in the fourth. However, Sierra exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth. CRC bounced back to take the lead in the bottom of the sixth, but Sierra tied it again in the top of the seventh. Then in the bottom of the seventh, Malia Babasa singled to score Kalie Toy for the win.

Offensively, Isabelle Vela and Eden Hobart both had two hits for the Hawks. Abigail Woodfill drove in three runs and Brooke Hanson had two RBI. In the circle, Tatiana Blas struck out seven on her way to her 19th win of the season.

Game two featured less scoring but more drama. Both teams were scoreless until the fourth when Sierra posted two runs in the top of the inning. CRC battled right back matching the Wolverines with two runs of their own on a 2 RBI double by Sarah Babby. The game remained that way through seven into extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth, Avery Jolly reached on bloop single. Then Babasa moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt. Eden Hobart continued the rally with a single and then Woodfill capped the game with an RBI single scoring Jolly for the win.

AJ Dahdouh went the full nine innings striking out seven. Woodfill led the team at the plate going 3-5. Babasa added two hits while Layla Towner and Sarah Babby each had doubles.

Next, the Hawks travel to Diablo Valley College on Tuesday.
