THE HAWKS GET THE WIN OVER MJC, MYLES RETURNS TO OLD SCHOOL

The Pirates came out ready to play, scoring the first 4 points of the game.  After that it was all Hawks the rest of the game.  The Hawks went on a 14 point run and kept the lead the rest of the game.  Janie Myles and Jade Sowell-Hundon led the Hawks, these two put on a great performance that led their team to a victory.  Two Years ago, Janie Myles led the Modesto Pirates to an outstanding season, however she then redshirted and transferred  over to CRC.  The Modesto College game plan was to clearly try and focus on stopping her, and by doing so, it opened up a wide range of shot opportunities for Sophomore Jade Sowell-Hundon that she took advantage of.  Jade Sowell-Hundon was the leading scorer of the night with 26 points and five 3 pointers! Janie Myles on the other hand was not shut out by the Modesto game plan, she ended up with 16 points and a very hard earned 23 rebounds! MJC's Breihanna Castilleja was the leading scorer for the Pirates with a total of 12 points at the end of the night.

Modesto has had a struggling year so far with zero wins in the big 8.  Shooting, rebounds, and the tempo of the game were the major factors that the Hawks utilized in this game to beat the Pirates.  The Hawks as a team had 47 rebounds appose to the Pirates 37, and the Hawks shot 29.4% from the 3-point line, as appose to the 11.1% that the Pirates shot from the 3-point line.

Janie Myles is an absolute force out there on the court and is averaging 21.5 points a game.  With that being said, Myles kept the return to her old school very humbling and respectful saying, "It was a joy to come back. I had some great times here.  Each game is competitive and hard. Modesto is a competitive team."

The Women Hawks now find themselves 4th in the Big 8 and will face the Big 8's number 1 team Santa Rosa Bear Cubs next at home January 28th at 5:30 PM.
