HAWKS AND FALCONS DRAW IN SEASON DEBUT

HAWKS AND FALCONS DRAW IN SEASON DEBUT

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Cosumnes River College women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with the Solano College Falcons tonight.  Even though both teams failed to net a goal during 90 minutes of regulation, the game was still an exciting battle that featured a number of near-misses by both clubs.

The match began with an uptempo style of play, as both teams played aggressive early in the match.  The Hawks, who lost two of their biggest playmakers the week before the season started, appeared to lose another talented player when defenseman Ashley Briglia came up limping four minutes into the match.  She was able to shake off the injury and completed the match, but appeared to be next in the line of recent bad luck the Hawks have endured as the season opened.

CRC missed a couple opportunities to score early, failing to execute when opportunities presented themselves.  Vilma Gonzalez was active at forward for the Hawks, but was unable to net a score.  Falcons forward Marissa Hendrix managed a couple shots throughout the match, but freshman goalkeeper Anna Brown was solid in net for the Hawks, making big saves down the stretch to shutout the Falcons.  Cosumnes River failed to capitalize on a late strike in extra time, which solidified the draw, as CRC opens the season with a 0-0 draw at home.

Cosumnes River will look to open things up offensively on Friday, when they play host to Canyons at the CRC Soccer fields.  Kickoff is scheduled for 4 PM.
