HAWKS FACE EARLY TEST AGAINST CANYONS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The CRC women's soccer team looks to close out their first week of the season today, as they play host to College of the Canyons.  The Hawks, fresh off a 0-0 draw against Solano this past Tuesday, look to improve their offensive output against a dangerous Canyons team.  The Cougars come into the season as defending Western State Conference champions, and with a preseason #7 national ranking, according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Preseason Poll.

The Santa Clarita-based Cougars and the Hawks know each other well, given the two team's recent history.  The Cougars defeated CRC last season in southern California 3-1, in a nonconference match.  The Hawks will look to take build upon their home field advantage, and take control of the match early by establishing tempo.  "Our objective is to be more dynamic and aggressive in the attacking half," said head coach Cesar Plasencia.  "We've worked on wing play to try and create soccer from those areas."

The Hawks, who put together a sound defensive effort despite being shorthanded in their first match against Solano, will also look to excel in this area as well.  "We talked about our commitment to defense and keeping our net clean," said the ten-year veteran following yesterday's practice.

CRC (0-0-1) hosts Canyons (0-0-0) today at 4 PM.  Tickets are $6 for general admission, $4 for seniors, and $2 for children.  Admission is always free for CRC students, staff and faculty.  Concessions will be available to purchase at the event.
