NORWALK, Calif. – The 2013 CRC women's soccer team entered the season with plenty of questions following a difficult preseason that saw the team lose two of its better players before the season began.   With a young roster, lofty expectations and some uncertainty about the veteran core, the Hawks have responded about as well as one could hope; heading into tomorrow's match, the Hawks are undefeated, with a 2-0-1 record.  They'll put that undefeated mark on the line with their greatest test of the year, as they take on reigning national champion, top-ranked Cerritos College on the road.

The Hawks are travelling south with plenty of momentum, following a pair of quality wins against top-ten competition.  CRC travelled to Fresno with the momentum of a huge 2-1 victory over College of the Canyons, a nationally ranked southern California soccer power.  CRC faced an uphill battle in the valley, however, as Fresno City was an early favorite to make the CCCAA's Final Four.  The team is currently ranked #4 in the NSCAA's national team rankings.  Things looked to get even worse for the young Hawks team as they fell behind the Rams early, with Fresno City taking a 1-0 advantage.  CRC responded well as they have all season, however, chipping away at the Rams for the remainder of the contest before taking the match 2-1.  They opened the season at home with a 0-0 draw against regional rival Solano.

Cerritos (2-0-0) is carrying plenty of momentum into tomorrow's match with them as well.  The Falcons, a team that prides itself on its blazing speed, took two straight matches against scholarship programs during a tournament in Melbourne, Florida.  The 2012 national champions and defending CCCAA state champions scored 11 goals in the two matches, while conceding only one. 

The high-powered Cerritos offense will prove to be a great test against a young, but talented, CRC defense.  The Hawks back line and freshman goalkeeper Anna Brown will look to lead CRC once again when they take on the Falcons Friday afternoon.  "They are going to be a tough challenge, but if we play as we did yesterday, we will give ourselves a chance," said head coach Cesar Plasencia said earlier today while travelling.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4 PM.  Cosumnes River will return home on Tuesday for a match against Butte College, before ending the nonconference portion of their schedule on the road against Evergreen Valley.
