HAWKS LOOK TO CONTINUE WINNING WAYS AGAINST MJC THIS AFTERNOON

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- Coming off one of their best nonconference performances in years, the 2013 CRC women's soccer team made a splash in a big way entering Big 8 play, when they defeated perennial power Santa Rosa on the road.  The Hawks look to continue their impressive play later today, when they play host to Modesto in their Big 8 conference home opener.

The victory over Santa Rosa was huge for CRC in setting them up for a postseason push.  Key victories over Canyons, Fresno City College, as well as the victory over Santa Rosa, puts the Hawks in a position for a top seed should they be able to put together a quality record in conference play.  They'll be put to the test today when they host Modesto, who enters the match undefeated.

"It was an outstanding performance by our players," said head coach Cesar Plasencia following the team's victory over SRJC.  "We played well in all phases of the game."  The Hawks have prided themselves on their defense this season, and the game against SRJC was no exception, as they shutout the Bear Cubs for the 1-0 victory.  "Our midfield was outstanding controlling the tempo of the game and providing us with goal scoring opportunities," said Plasencia.  "The back four and our goal keeper were solid once again."

CRC plays host to the Pirates this afternoon at 3:30.  They'll open next week against Sacramento City on the road for a night match, before returning home Friday to host the Vikings of Diablo Valley College.  That match will also be scheduled for 3:30 as well.

Tickets are $6 for general admission, $4 for seniors, and $2 for children.  Admission is always free for CRC students, staff and faculty.  Concessions will be available to purchase at the event.
