Hawks roll on in Nor-Cal playoffs.

On a day that the weather was supposed to be a factor, it wasn't and that certainly helped both team as they tried to move on in the 2016 Nor-Cal Regional CCCAA playoffs.

Cosumnes River College took advantage as they got just enough done to garner the win over Evergreen College on Saturday in the opening round.

Shots, as well as shots on goal were at a premium in the match as CRC outshot Evergreen 3-2 with CRC goalie Elizabeth Kowalczyk back in the goal after missing a few games due to an outside injury facing just 2 shots on goal by the Evergreen Hawks. Kowalczyk continues her excellent play down the stretch as she has gone 4-2-3 in her last nine games in goal with only 4 goals against in those nine games.

The CRC Hawks needed offense on the day though to get the win and with Averen Calvin on the pitch it's good odds there will be some scoring at least.

Calvin wasn't going to be denied as she scored in the 24th minute on an unassisted goal, getting by a defender to tally first for CRC.

"I got a good read off the defender and she made a move and I was able to get by her and then I was one on one with the goalie and I tried to make a touch pass but she got a deflection and it went in for us, I thought, okay, that's our lucky one and let's get another one."

The 1-0 lead stood up till halftime and in the second half Calvin struck again in the 86th minute to ice the game for CRC off and assist from Ariel Klink.

"I got a nice pass from Ariel and slipped away from the defender and the keeper was way out and I just took the shot with my left and it went in."

Kowalczyk's play was not lost on Calvin either, " It was a big game for her, she came out after missing a few games wanting to show that even though she had been knocked down in her personal life, she could come back out and pick it right back up, she was huge for us."

Calvin's two goals give her 15 goals on the season, 11 since conference play started.

Next up for the Hawks is a Tuesday match against Folsom Lake College at FLC at 5pm. The Hawks split against the Falcons this season losing the Big 8 opener here 2-0, and winning the return match 1-0 at FLC.
