Beavers Get Past Hawks

SACRAMENTO (9-29) - Cosumnes River came home this afternoon as they took on American River College in Sacramento. The Beavers scored two goals in the first half en route to a 3-0 win.

In their last match, the Hawks lost 2-1 to Modesto Junior College on Tuesday in Stockton while the Falcons won 2-1 over American River College 0-0 last Friday in Sacramento.

In the first half, the Beavers would get on the scoreboard early. With 37:28 left in the half, Tanya Rodriguez would score off a pass from Monet Lopez to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. The last chance of the half for the Hawks to score came with 20:50 left in the half but Analissa Lopez’s shot was saved by Beavers’ goalie Cassandra Figueroa. With 4:35 left, the Beavers scored on a Tiffany Miras shot off a Rodriguez pass to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead. The Beavers led 2-0 at the halftime intermission.

In the second half, the Beavers would score again. Miras would score after a pass from Lopez to give the Beavers a 3-0 lead with 19:52 left. The last shot of the match for the Hawks was by Yvonne Taylor but her shot was saved Figueroa. The loss was Cosumnes River’s third in a row and extended their winless streak to seven.

Alex Torres had a match high three shots to lead the Hawks and Miras also had a match high three shots to lead the Beavers. Figueroa got the win for the Beavers and Shelby Hand got the loss for the Hawks. Both teams both had seven shots while the Hawks had two more fouls (3-1) than did the Beavers.

The Hawks will have their next match on Tuesday as they will take on Sacramento City College in Big 8 Conference in Sacramento at Hughes Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 pm.
