CASSIE BAXTER NAMED HEAD COACH FOR VOLLEYBALL

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Cassie Baxter will be joining our CRC sports family this next Fall 2014.  She comes from Sierra College where she spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Wolverine's Women's Volleyball team. Coach Baxter is a part time Physical Education teacher at Riverbank K-8th School in West Sacramento. She also coaches the 6th-8th grade girls' Volleyball and girls' Basketball team for the Otters.

A 2010 graduate of Cal State East Bay, Baxter earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Physical Education teaching in 2010. She then completed her California K-12 teaching credential at East Bay with a 4.0 GPA in 2011. She graduated with her Master's Degree in Education Curriculum with an emphasis on Physical Education this past June.

While in graduate school at Cal State East Bay, Cassie served as an assistant coach for Head Coach Jim Spagle. During her college playing career Baxter played two seasons at middle blocker for Spagle, following a successful career at American River College where she was a two-sport athlete. During that time Baxter served as the Beavers' volleyball captain as a freshman in 2005 and was a two-year captain and starter for the basketball team.

A native of Sacramento, Baxter comes from an athletically gifted family. Her parents, Bill and Michelle Baxter, are both former collegiate athletes and UC Davis graduates. Her father has since retired from the local high school scene after serving as a physical education teacher, athletic director and girls' basketball coach at El Camino High School earning a spot in C.I.F. Hall of Fame with over 600 victories. He is now the Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Sacramento State University. Her Mother is entering her 26th year of teaching Physical Education at Oakmont High School in Roseville.

Cassie's younger brother, Kyle, graduated from Humboldt State University with a B.A. in Business Management. Kyle was a 4 year starting forward on the Men's Basketball team and was the 2009 CCAA Freshman of the Year and a Freshman College All American. He was the second player ever in HSU history for acquiring over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 250 assists. He finished his career with 1,014 points, 546 rebounds and 251 assists. Kyle played Professional Basketball in Annonay, France this past year and is pursuing his next contract.
