DVC holds off Hawks !

The CRC Hawks Volleyball team put on a valiant show against the Diablo Valley College Vikings before falling 3-0 on Wednesday night in the Hawks Big 8 opener.

The Vikings took the first game by a 25-17 score which is deceiving as they jumped out to a big lead before CRC fought back but ran out of game.

In game two it was back and forth all game as the Hawks played much smoother and were leading at 15-14 before DVC finished the victory at 25-22.

Game three the Hawks played well early but the Vikings had a serious run of getting their hits in just the right places where the Hawks couldn't quite get to. Final score in game three was 25-17.

Overall the Hawks played well but in the eyes of Coach Kari Post there are some improvements that can be made, "We need to be able in the future, to shut down the other teams big hitter because that player won't be able to get all their teams points. If we can neutralize the rest of the players, I think we can do well."

Hannah Norris led the Hawks with 10 kills in the match and Olivia Sowles followed her with seven kills of her own as the Hawks had 26 on the evening.

Lauren Smith continued her excellent setting with 20 of the Hawks 22 assists in the match.

Defensively, the Hawks were led by Justine Busse and her 12 digs, in addition, Lauren Smith had 11 digs of her own. CRC had 47 digs as a team on the night.

With the loss, CRC is now 5-6 overall and 0-1 in Big 8 play.

Next up is a road match at Sierra College who is 7-3 overall and 1-0 in Big 8 play. The match will be on Friday at 6:30pm.
