Beavers clog up Hawks final 2016 match.

American River College defeated the Hawks on Wednesday night by scores of 25-19, 25-21, and in the final set of 2016, 25-12.

The Big 8 Conference is a tough league to play in and playing well in a match against one of the upper level teams is fine, but a lot of the time won't get a victory so the Hawks knew they would have to play at their best to grab their second win in conference action.

In the first set the Beavers jumped out to leads that if a team was going to give up it would be easy to do that. The Hawks hung in and chipped away at the lead and forced ARC to battle for the 25-19 win that seemed quite a bit closer than the score indicates. The Hawks played well on defense and passed well but they just didn't get enough kill opportunities in the set.

The second set saw the Hawks jump out to a small lead before ARC battled back and went ahead. Although they were ahead most of the set, the Hawks were never out of it and a couple key plays allowed the Beavers to nail down the victory.

The third set saw the Hawks struggle to contain the ARC big hitters kills as the Beavers pulled away at the end.

The Hawks were led by Hannah Norris seven kills with Olivia Sowles next with four on the night.

Lauren Smith again led the Hawks with 13 assists for the match.

Sowles and Maya Young led the Hawks with six digs each and Justine Busse had five while Norris and Keilani Gaither had four each.

The Hawks finish the season with a 6-20 record overall and a 1-15 mark in what is possibly the toughest volleyball conference in the state.
