Hawks Defend Their Nest, Sweep DVC in 3

Sacramento, CA - After being on the road for much of the first half of season, the Hawks got a rare home matchup against conference opponent, Diablo Valley College. Originally scheduled on October 11th, this matchup was rescheduled for a Tuesday, not a typical occurence during conference play. Despite, the difference in game days, the Hawks took the court looking to protect their home floor against the visiting Vikings. The Hawks scored early and often, keeping the Viking defense on their heels, with a strong showing offensively. 

On the offensive end CRC totalled 43 kills on 99 swings, which equates to a .354 kill percentage. Deziree McKee, a Sophomore from Franklin High School in Elk Grove, lead the Hawks with a .625 kill percentage. This resulted in 11 kills in the match despite only playing in 2 of the three sets. Kaley Dosier added 9 kills to the Hawks' total with a .500 kill percentage of her own. Miah Williamson followed suit with 8 kills on 18 attempts (.278 kill percentage). Charissa Pham racked up 30 assists for the Hawks, a career high fo the Freshman out of Sheldon High School. Giovanna Parino kept her streak of double digit assist totals with 12 assists in her lone set, before getting a well deserved break. This marks Giovanna's 5th straight double digit assist total in a row and 18 of of 19 total matches. 

The defense which continued their signature strong play throughout the match, continuing to be a strength to the Hawk team. The front line combined for 4 combo blocks. Deziree McKee combined with Charissa Pham for one of the combo blocks, and Avery Jimenez for the other. McKee currently ranks 1st in conference in solo blocks as well as total blocks. Along with the blocking up front, CRC kept their oppoent off balance all night with strong serving. The Hawks combined for 10 service aces against the Viking serve-receive. Miah Williamson and Anna Thomas totaled 2 service aces each. Abigail Hicks picked up 3 aces to lead the CRC servers. The Hawks' defense totaled 67 digs during the 3 set match. Abigail Hicks along with her aces, lead the defense with 14 digs. Isabella Bugarin, a freshman from River Valley High School, added 12 of her own. Getting in on the strong defensive front were Ainsley Beckman (9 digs) as well as Anna Thomas (8 digs).

Noteworthy Performance - Abigail Hicks picked up her 326th dig of the seaon, this brings her career total up to 711 digs. This breaks the CRC career dig record (703) previously held by Alison Airoldi who played for the Hawks during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Hicks already holds the school record for: aces in a single set, digs in a single set, aces in a season, and aces in a career. 

Up Next- The Hawks (9-10) hit the road to take on Sacramento City College (7-12). Last season the Hawks ended their season by visiting Sacramento City College and taking home the victory, ending their season with a win. This game will be played at 6:30 in the North Gym on campus.
