Growth Over the Scoreboard: Falcons Keep Building Their Game

The Folsom Lake Falcons may have fallen 8-0 on Tuesday afternoon against a strong Cosumnes River squad, but the team showed flashes of defensive promise and continued development as the season progresses.

While the final score favored the Hawks, there were plenty of positives for the Falcons to take home—especially in a game that challenged their depth and resilience.

Versatility on Display
Melia Ritchie once again demonstrated her value as a two-way contributor. The freshman chipped in one of Folsom Lake's two hits and stepped into the circle to pitch 1.1 solid innings in relief, allowing just one earned run while keeping hitters off balance.

Ritchie was also part of a sharp defensive double play with center fielder Kamora Baptiste, one of the game's standout defensive moments that showed the Falcons' growing chemistry in the field.

Bright Spots at the Plate
Third baseman Rhanoa Barton added the Falcons' other hit, showing a confident approach in the box and solid glove work on defense. Though Folsom Lake only tallied two hits, the team made consistent contact and limited strikeouts—finishing with just three K's over five innings.

Catcher Annika Scheafer showed patience at the plate by drawing a walk, continuing to demonstrate veteran poise and leadership behind the dish.

Flashes of Solid Team Defense
Despite three errors on the day, the Falcons made several smart defensive plays, including strong positioning and communication in the outfield. The double play and improved infield communication point to a defense that's beginning to settle in as the season hits its stride.

"Every game teaches us something new," said Head Coach Amber Grahlman. "We saw a lot of good things today—our pitchers battled, we made some good adjustments, and our energy stayed high."

Staying the Course
The Falcons continue to focus on growth, execution, and consistency as they navigate the mid-season grind. With young talent developing and veterans setting the tone, the pieces are starting to come together.

As the season unfolds, performances like Tuesday's—though tough on the scoreboard—are laying the foundation for a team that's building toward long-term success.
