James Clark Classic: Hawks Improve Record to 7-3

Sacramento, CA - Cosumnes River College hosted its' 42nd Annual Clark Classic this year with slight changes due to COVID-19. Instead of the typical tournament style play, this year saw arranged games to reduce the number of players in the gymnasium. This year's particicipants were: Cosumnes River College, Fresno City College, Las Positas College, Reedley College, Sacramento City College, and College of the Siskiyous. Despite the adjustments required for COVID protocols, the tournament ran smoothly and Cosumnes River College improved their record with a 2-1 showing. 

On day 1, the Hawks took on the Eagles of College of the Siskiyous with CRC emerging victorious with a 69-64 victory! Freshman Patrick Parkes Jr. led the team with 18 points resulting from 7-12 shooting, including 3-6 from the 3-point line. Sophomores Andre Huddleston and Dillon Iyawe both tallied 10 points for the Hawks. Dillon Iyawe tallied a double-double with 10 points, and 13 rebounds. Andre Huddleston tallied 4 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals to go along with his 10 points. Freshman Kyree Dunn also chipped in 9 points on 3-5 shooting. Kaleb Drake contributed 6 points to the Hawks' total along with 7 rebounds of his own. 

The second day saw CRC take on the Fresno City College Rams. The Rams started the game off fast, jumping out to an early lead. However, they were unable to hold the lead as the Hawks stormed back to take the lead. Fresno City attempted a late comeback, but were unable to finish their comeback as the Hawks protected their lead from the free throw line. Andre Huddleston led the Hawks with 24 points including an important 16 points from the free throw line in 17 attempts. Huddleston also added 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals to go along with his team leading 24 points. Dillon Iyawe tallied his second double-double of the tournament with 12 points and 11 rebounds, including 6 offensive rebounds. Freshman Dewitt Bullock was two rebounds short of a double-double of his own, chipping in 10 points with 8 rebounds. Kaleb Drake added 15 points while shooting 5-9 from the floor, along with 11 from Kyree Dunn. The Hawks took home their 7th victory on the season with the 91-84 victory. 

Reedley College was the scheduled opponent for the conclusion of the Clark Classic. The Tigers and Hawks took turns holding the lead with the Tigers eventually coming out on top with the 76-73 victory. CRC had an opportunity to tie the game on a Kaleb Drake 3-pointer, which fell just short. Dillon Iyawe led the team with 15 points, picking up his third straight double-double in the tournament grabbing 10 rebounds. Kaleb Drake went 6-9 from the field adding 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Andre Huddleston had a solid all-around game with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Patrick Parkes Jr. came off the bench to score 10 points on 3-5 shooting, as well as grabbing 3 rebounds, tallied 3 assists and a steal. 

Up Next- The Hawks have some time to recooperate after the long weekend. Their next game will be December 11th against West Hills Lemoore at 3:00 PM.
