SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Cosumnes River men's soccer team remains one of the hottest teams in the CCCAA north region, as the Hawks are undefeated in their last four matches, going 3-0-1 over the last two weeks.  They'll look to continue their streak of impressive play later this afternoon when they play host to CVC foe Fresno City College.

The Hawks are coming off one of their best performances of the season, a 2-0 victory over CVC-powerhouse Taft.  CRC was led in that contest by Student-Athlete of the Week recipient Isaac McDaniel, pictured right, who scored two goals in the contest.  He currently leads the Big 8 conference with seven on the year.  In the first half, the Hawks came out very aggressive against a talented Taft team.  The first half was hard and very physical, as both teams had their share of good hits.  The second half was a bit of a different story, but the Hawks were able to hang on for the win.  "We came out flat and sloppy in the second half," said assistant coach Brandon Evangelista.  "We strayed away from what was working, and we let them back into the game."

Cosumnes River will look to improve upon their play today against the Rams.  Look for the Hawks to improve their final third play (the team's defensive end).  According to Evangelista, the team has also worked on improving their dribble penetration and making the final pass top score.  Players to keep an eye on are last week's student-athlete of the week Luis Acosta, as well as talented freshman Ander Saez.

The Hawks will look for more consistent play from their team in this contest.  They'll have to raise their game to defeat a Fresno City team that is, historically, one of the top teams in the North.  "(Fresno City) is a team of good, skilled players that can read the game," said Evangelista of the Rams.  "They have good tactical sense and play physical."  CRC does have a strong history against the Rams, as both teams are about .500 in the matchup.  To extend their undefeated streak to five matches, however, the Hawks will need to stick to what has been working for them of late.  "We need to stay within our system," said Evangelista.  "We need to be more physical when a team plays us physically"

Today's match is scheduled for 4 PM.  Tickets are available for $6 for general admission, $4 for seniors, and $2 for children.  Admission is always free for CRC students, staff and faculty.  Concessions will be available to purchase at the event.  Parking permits are available at designated kiosks in the parking lots.
