CRC TO HOST CCCAA STATE SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIPS TOMORROW

SACRAMENTO, Calif.- The CCCAA Men’s and Women’s Soccer State Championships feature some familiar names as the fields dwindle down to the final four teams.  Within the final four, three of the four women’s teams return from last season.  On the men’s side, the top-ranked, 4-time defending state champion Mt. San Antonio search for their 5th straight title in a row.  Cerritos is the defending champs for the women, and return to defend their title.  The state semifinals will start on December 6th at Cosumnes River College on the campus’s brand new soccer facilities.  

Being the only junior college in history to win four state titles in a row, Mt. San Antonio (16-3-4) are looking to win five straight state titles.   Seeded as the No. 1 team in the South, Mt. Sac will face No. 2 Foothill (14-3-5) at 2 p.m. to begin that quest for five straight.  Mt. Sac was led to the No. 1 seed by a pair of players, Alex Patino and Cristian Ruelas, who have recorded 17 goals each on the season.  The team also features ten other players on their roster scoring double-digit goal totals on the season.  For Foothill, the Owls are going to be led by their high goal scorer, Edgardo Molina, who has netted 13 goals on the season.  Foothill is currently on a 13 game unbeaten streak hoping to make their streak 14 with a win over favored Mt. Sac.

No. 1 in the North, Hartnell (17-4-3) will be playing No. 2 of the South, Santa Ana (16-4-4) on the other side of the bracket.  Hartnell, who is coming off a big win in the Quarterfinals against De Anza, is going to be led by their top scorers Jose Mendoza and Lorenzo Vasquez who have 21 goals together on the season.  Santa Ana will be boosted as they are led into the semifinal with Luis Venegas at the head of their attack scheme with 26 goals scored during the season.

Cerritos (22-0-1), the defending women’s champion is ranked No. 1 in the South, and is looking to keep their outstanding undefeated season intact against the North’s No. 2 seed Foothill (14-5-3) at 10 a.m. on December 6th.  The dominant Cerritos has been averaging five goals a game in their undefeated season, and led by Nayeli Requejo (26 goals 12 assists) and Claudia Lopez (24 goals 15 assists) who are the teams top goal scorers during the season.  Also in their 23 matches this season, they have been dominant in the box, recording 14 shutouts by their two keepers Adrianna Salazar and Alexis Carrillo between the post.  However, Foothill has also recorded 14 shutouts on the season with Samantha Street and Claudia Fernandez as their keepers, and has also scored 49 goals in their 23-match season.

In the other bracket, No. 1 in the north City College of San Francisco will face No. 2 in the South Santiago Canyon.  CCSF (19-2-2), who has had a dominant season, are led by leading scorer Paloma Zermeno who netted an outstanding 32 goals on the season for the Lady Rams.  The Ram’s will have their hands full with Santiago Canyon (20-1-2), who’s only loss came against undefeated Cerritos, 2-0.

The CCCAA soccer state Championships will start on December 6th with the Semifinals starting at 10 a.m., and will finish on December 8th with Finals for both men and women.  Times for the Finals will be released following the conclusion of the Semifinals.
