He was nominated in his junior and senior years for All-American honors as an Athlete in an Independent Soccer Program. Ron was fortunate to play for such notable coaches as Travis Parker (Cosumnes River College), Dean Wurtzberger (CSU, Sacramento) now at the University of Washington, and David Linenberger (CSU, Sacramento) formerly of University of South Carolina, Spartanburg, Fresno State, and United States Soccer Federation.

Ron earned his Bachelors in Physical Education in 1991 from CSU, Sacramento. After college, Ron had a short stint with the Sacramento Senators in the Western Soccer League from 1988-1990, where he served first as an administrator for the team and then as a player before having a season ending injury.

Ron started his collegiate coaching career in 1988 as an assistant to Travis Parker for four years here at CRC. Ron then spent the next five years as an assistant to Head Coach, Michael Linenberger at CSU,

Sacramento coaching at the NCAA Division I level. Ron returned to CRC in the fall of 1997 as an assistant to Travis Parker. In the spring of 1999, before serving as the CRC Interim Head Coach, Ron served as an assistant coach and then the Interim head coach and general manager for the Sacramento Geckos in the A-League, the Professional Division of the United Soccer Leagues.

In 2000 after completing his Masters Degree in Physical Education-Sports Management, Ron was hired full-time as Head men’s Soccer Coach at CRC. Ron enters his 15th year as the full-time Head Coach for the Hawks.

2003 was a breakout season for the Hawks, with four years of hard work and creating a CRC Soccer culture. The Hawks finished the 2003 campaign as State Finalists, #3 in the Nation, #1 in the State, #1 in Nor-Cal and a Conference Championship. The team received many other awards such as Player of the Year, Midfielder of the Year, and Attacker of the Year, Honorable Mention, one All California, one All Far-West, and one All-American. Coach Preble was honored with BVC-Coach of the Year as well as Nor-Cal Coach of the Year. The fall of 2004 was another good campaign for CRC with another Conference Championship. The team received several awards including Goal Keeper of the Year, 5 All-Conference players, 2 Nor Cal players and 2 All-California players.

In 2006, CRC had a great year making it to the quarter finals of the State Championships. Several players were selected to the Sophomore Bowl squad for the North during the Championship weekend. Several players were honored with Big 7 All-Conference selections, Attacking Players of the Year, and Coach of the Year honors. Several players from this group have gone on to 4 year programs from Division I to NAIA.

In 2007, was a rebuilding year for the CRC program. The team missed the playoffs for the first time since 1996. The players worked extremely hard to raise their level to the collegiate standard. The staff felt that by the end of the year the team had become very competent college players. “The players definitely reached the level necessary and were very disappointed to barely miss the playoffs”. The team had three players receive All Conference honors and sent four sophomores to the Sophomore Bowl hosted at the State Championships. One of the CRC sophomores was second in voting for the Sophomore MVP honor.

In Fall 2008, the CRC got back on track bouncing back to make the playoffs and add to the playoff track record of 22 appearances out of 30 years for the CRC soccer program. There were four All Conference selections and several players peaked interest from four year Division I and Division II colleges. Three sophomores were honored with the invitation to the Sophomore Bowl.

The Fall of 2009, was a year of talent and injuries. The team was ranked in the top 15 teams in the nation at one point before a bad spell of injuries and performance tumbled them right out of the national polls. The team rallied to finish 2nd in the Big 8 conference, ranked 8th in the north and 16th in the State. Several players were named All-Conference with Goalkeeper of the Year being the top honor on the season. The team lost in the first round of the playoffs 0-1 as the host, after losing four players at the very end of the season. Again, three sophomores were honored with selection to the Sophomore Bowl. Overall, a very good year making the playoffs and performing admirably under difficult circumstances.
