HAWKS SUFFER TWO CLOSE LOSSES IN DOUBLE HEADER AT DELTA

STOCKTON, Calif.  Softball traveled to play in a double header against San Joaquin Delta on April 10th.  The girls played very well and came up just short in each match up.  Amanda Horbasch pitched back-to-back games putting up great numbers for the Hawks.  Amy Pedretti (Pictured Right) led the Hawks from the plate in game 2, hitting the ball very well.

Game one against Delta started off in a defensive battle and would stay that way for 5 innings.  In the bottom of the 5th inning the Mustangs would score a run off the bat of Jamie Costa.  Unfortunately the Hawks did not have the answer for their next two innings at bat and the game would finish with a 1-0 win for San Jouquin Delta.  Amy Pedretti led the Hawks from the plate in game 2, hitting the ball very well.

The Hawks as a team would have a total of 23 at bats and 4 hits.  The Mustangs as a team had 21 at bats and also had 4 hits, with 1 run and 1 RBI.  From the mound Amanda Horbasch had another great performance and out of the 21 batters that she faced she would strike out 7 of them. For the Mustangs, Miranda Quesada would pitch for the full game, and out of the 23 at bats she faced from the Hawks she would only strike out 4 of them.  From the plate, Gail Oliver would have 2 of the 4 hits that the Hawks had and Pedretti would have a sacrifice hit.

Shortly after the devastating loss the Hawks would have another shot at the Mustangs.  Game 2 started off completely different, with both teams scoring in it.  The Hawks were looking for revenge and started the top of the first inning off with 2 runs.  However, the Mustangs would come right back with 3 runs in the same inning, and 1 more in the bottom of the second inning.  It wasn't until 3 innings later when the Hawks and Mustangs would score again.  Both teams would add 1 more run each in the 5th inning.  The Hawks offense did not have an answer in the 6th and 7th inning and the game would end in another close loss 5-3.

In this match up the Hawks would have a total of 26 at bats, with 7 hits, 2 RBI's, and 0 strikeouts.  Amy Pedretti had an outstanding game from the plate, with 4 at bats, 3 hits, and 2 runs of the Hawks 3.  Horbasch had the 2 RBI's for the team, and pitched the entire game.  Out of the 31 batters that Horbasch faced, she allowed 8 hits and had 3 strikeouts.  Despite the two losses the Hawks played very well all around on defense and offense.
