Walk-Offs Lead Hawks to Sweep Opening Weekend

The Hawks learned early in the season that the game is never over until the last out as Lindsay Lambert and Alexus Acosta each singled home the winning runs in both of Saturday's games to help The Hawks sweep the weekend.

In game 1, The Hawks beat Feather River 3-2 after entering the bottom of the 7th inning down 2-1. Veronica Smith lead off with a single and Cecilla Rivera advanced Smith on a sacrifice bunt to 2nd base. Smith advanced to 3rd base on a pass ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Miranda Rodriguez to tie the score at 2. With 2 outs, Alexus Acosta legs out an infield hit, while Courtney Beatty walked as well as Chelsea Martinez to load the bases with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th and a tie game. Lindsay Lambert hit a hard ground ball between 1st and 2nd and beats the play at 1st to win the game 3-2.

Lambert was 3 for 3 for the game while The Hawks collected 8 hits as a team.

Brittany Baroni picked up her second win of the season by going 7 innings giving up 6 hits, striking out 2, and allowing 1 earned run.  

Game 2 came down to who could score the most runs before the last out as The Hawks beat Cabrillo College 10-9 in the bottom of the 7th to sweep the weekend. The Hawks started slow by allowing Cabrillo to take a 5-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. The Hawks picked up 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st and 2 in the 3rd to get back in the game. Cabrillo keep their bats going by adding 2 more runs in the 4th and 5th to take a 9-5 lead. The Hawks added 2 runs in the 6th and entered the bottom of the 7th down 9-7.

Taelor Ford leads off with a walk and advanced to 2nd on an infield out by Kaylee Mustard. Alex Scardina singles to advance Ford to 3rd. Cecilia Rivera singles to score Ford as Scardina advances to 2nd. With the score 9-8, Veronica Smith enters the game to run for Scardina and advances to 3rd on a pass ball while Miranda Rodriguez lifts a single to left field to score Smith to tie the game 9-9. With Rodriguez advancing to 2nd base on the throw and the score tied at 9-9 and 2 outs, Alexus Acosta gets an infield hit and Rodiguez scores on an attempt to make the play on Acosta. The Hawks pull out their 4th victory 10-9 for their second walk-off of the day.

With the combined effort of 3 Hawks pitchers, Brittany Baroni picked up the win going 2 2/3 innings allowing no runs, no hits, and striking out 2. This was Baroni's 3rd win of the weekend.

The Hawks collected 11 hits against Cabrillo with Miranda Rodriguez, Alexus Acosta, Chelsea Martinez, and Alex Scardina collecting multiple hits in the game
