Seven Hawks Named All Big 8

The seventh-ranked Cosumnes River Hawks earned numerous post-season awards following a successful 2022 regular season. The Hawks had seven players earn recognition from the Big 8 Conference.

"These awards were well-deserved.  Our team had a great season this year, and I am glad our players were noticed for their hard work and success," commented head coach Kristy Schroeder.

Pitcher Ashlee Toy was named Big 8 Pitcher of the Year and first-team all-conference. Toy was twice named CCCAA State Pitcher of the Week. She won 21 regular season games, had an ERA of 1.10, and struck out 172 batters. In addition to dominating in the circle, Toy was a force at the plate where she batted .344 and scored 25 runs for the Hawks.

Infielders Danielle Pfennig, Leandra Coronado, and Mary Baccay also named to Big 8 all-conference team-. Pfennig was a first team selection as a utility player, playing first base and pitcher. She hit .379 for the season and led the team with 24 RBI. She also led the team in doubles with 11. As a pitcher she won three games and had an ERA 3.27. Coronado joined her on the first-team as a shortstop. The veteran hit .378 on the year with 29 runs scored and 17 RBI. At second base, Baccay was second-team selection. She batted .358, had 21 RBI, and led the team in triples with three.

Outfielders Gaby Lipski and Tamisha McBride joined catcher Victoria Ochoa as members of the Big 8's honorable mention team.

The Hawks return to action this weekend at San Jose City College in the CCCAA Super Regionals.
