Delta College topped Cosumnes River College (CRC) in a tight 2-1 Big 8 Conference opener on Tuesday at the University of the Pacific.

"It was a good game between two top teams," commented Kristy Schroeder. "We just couldn't get a clutch hit when we had runners on base. We'll bounce back."

Tatiana Blas suffered her first loss of the season although she only gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits. She also had seven strikeouts. Offensively, the Hawks had twice as many hits (six) as the Mustangs, but only Sara Babby scored in the top of the fifth on an RBI by Eden Hobart. Abigail Woodfill went 2-3 to lead the Hawks.

CRC returns to action on Saturday at American River College.
