Hawks Overcome Weather & Errors to Sweep Beavers

The Cosumnes River Hawks returned to its winning ways with a sweep at American River College.  The Hawks shut out the Beavers 7-0 in game one, and won a shootout, 13-7, in game two.

The opener was a pitcher's duel for the first three innings. However, the Hawks broke it open in the fourth with two runs. They tacked on another in the fifth and exploded for four more runs in the seventh. Brooke Hanson powered CRC going 3-4 with a home run and three RBI. Malia Babasa, Eden Hobart, Emily Johnson, Abigail Woodfill, and Avery Jolley all had hits for the Hawks. Tatiana Blas was dominant in the circle.  She struck out 10 Beavers and gave up only two hits on the way to earning her ninth win of the year.

The Hawks were not as sharp in the second game of the day.  Despite scoring 5 runs in the first two innings of the game, defensive miscues and errors allowed ARC to equalize with five runs of their own. A pitching change quieted the Beaver bats while CRC kept piling on the runs. Brooke Hanson and Emily Johson were both 4-5 on the day. Hanson had two doubles and Johnson had two homers in the game. Sara Babby went 3-4 and had two RBI. Abigail Woodfill tacked on her second homer of the year along with a triple. Kailee Toy also added an RBI triple. Blas pushed her record to 10-1 in a relief appearance.

"I was happy we got the games in today with the weather and that we won. Tatiana pitched great, but we have to play better defensively," said head coach Kristy Schroeder. "Our hitting bailed us out in the second game, and I hope we can continue to rely on that."
