Hawks Celebrate Sophomores with a Win Over #10 Modesto

In a celebration of CRC's sophomores, Cosumnes River College split a competitive two-game series with Modesto, highlighted by strong individual performances and a bounce-back win. In Friday's narrow extra inning 5-4 loss, the Hawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, sparked by Charlize Fasula's two-run triple and an RBI single from Mariah Hopkins. Eden Hobart added an RBI in the sixth to briefly retake the lead, but Modesto answered with late-inning home runs to edge ahead. Despite the tough loss, Hopkins (2-for-4, RBI) and Fasula (2-for-5, 2 RBI, triple) were standouts at the plate.

CRC responded in the second game with a commanding 6-1 victory behind a complete-game effort from Ariana Fuentes, who allowed just one earned run and struck out four across seven innings. Mariah Hopkins continued her hot streak, going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and two RBIs. Abigail Woodfill went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Kalani Hernandez, Emily Azemar, and Fuentes each contributed timely RBIs to support the offensive attack. The Hawks also played solid defense and made the most of their scoring chances in a well-rounded win that puts them tied for third place in the Big 8.

Cosumnes River College will finish league play on the road at Santa Rosa College in a single game today, April 22 at 3 p.m.
