JANIE MYLES NAMED STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK FOR 2ND TIME

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Janie Myles (West Allis Central HS/Chicago, Ill.), a sophomore forward for the women’s basketball team, has been named CRC’s Student-Athlete of the Week for the winter holiday break.  This is the second time Myles has received the honor.

Myles, a 5’11” guard/forward from Chicago, has averaged 21 points and nearly 20 rebounds per game over her last six contests during that stretch.  To date she has posted 10 double-doubles this year, including five in her last five games.  Recently, Myles completed the Solano Showdown with a dominant 31 point-28 rebound performance against host Solano CC in a narrow 74-71 loss.  In the three-game event, Myles averaged 23 points and 22 rebounds, as the Hawks went 1-2 in a loaded tournament field.

On the year, Myles leads the team in nearly every statistical category, stuffing the stat sheet on a nightly basis in leading the Hawks to a 9-5 overall record entering conference play.  Myles is currently averaging 21.9 points, 14.9 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 1.2 blocks per contest through 14 games.  She’s also among the top performers in the Big 8 conference and CCCAA, currently ranking fifth in the State in scoring, and second in the State in rebounding.  Myles is also ranked seventh in the CCCAA in steals.

This is Janie Myles’ second Student-Athlete of the Week honor, as well as the second for the women’s basketball team this season.  She earned the honor in November following a standout performance in the CRC Invitational.  Myles and the women’s basketball team will return to action next week when they open Big 8 conference play on the road at Diablo Valley College.  They’ll return home on Friday, January 10th for their conference home opener, when they host crosstown rival American River.  Tipoff for that contest is scheduled for 7:30.
