Second quarter blues allow Vikings to seal victory against the Hawks.

Both teams came out and played well in the first quarter with the Hawks only trailing by 2 at the break by a 21-19 score. Diablo Valley clamped down on the Hawks in the second period with a 24-13 quarter which put the Vikings up at the half by a 45-32 score.

The second half played out even with the Hawks being outscored 26-20 in the third but stepping up to with allowing the Vikings just 5 points in the fourth quarter but the damage was done by that point as DVC took the 76-63 win.

Daija Ward had 16 points and 5 rebounds for the Hawks with Taneisha Dyer and Trina Shaner each dropping 12 points for CRC. Shaner was the Hawks leading rebounder with 6 boards on the night. In addition to Ward, Nayani Gordon and QuoQuese Jackson each had 5 rebounds as the Hawks showed real balance with their boardwork against DVC.

Gordon added 8 points while Yvonne Taylor chipped in with 7 points and 4 boards off the bench. Jasmine Chapman contributed 6 points and 6 assists for the Hawks.

With the loss, the Hawks are 5-14 on the year and are now 1-5 in Big 8 action.

Next up for the Hawks is a road trip to down to play San Joaquin Delta on Tuesday the 24th to round out the first half play in the Big 8 conference, and a home game on the 27th against Modesto at 5:30pm.
