Hawks Top 49ers in Four

STOCKTON (8-25) - Cosumnes River played their second match of the 2017 season as they took on Yuba College at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton. The Hawks came away with a 3-1 victory for their first win of the season

Both teams lost their last match. The Hawks lost 3-0 to Solano Community College earlier today in Stockton while the 49ers lost 3-0 to San Joaquin Delta College earlier today in Stockton 

The first set was back and forth with neither team gaining an advantage through the majority of the set. The Hawks would win a close set 25-23 and took a 1-0 lead in the match. In the second set, the Hawks would have a strong offensive showing and would win the second set 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. In the third set, the 49ers would respond with a strong offensive attack of their own. The 49ers won the closely played set 25-21 and trimmed the Hawks’ lead to 2-1. In the fourth set, the Hawks would close out the 49ers with a strong defensive presence and won the fourth set 25-19 to win the match 3-1.

For Cosumnes River, Kelsey Brehm had a match high thirteen kills apiece and for Yuba, Heather Harness had eleven kills. Rebakkah McLaughlin had twenty two assists for Cosumnes River and Sarah Baty had a match high twenty three for Yuba. Maya Young led the Hawks with a match high twelve digs and Makenna French and Connar Lopez both had five digs for the Falcons.

For the match, Cosumnes River had a .176 hitting percentage while Yuba had a .062 hitting percentage. The Hawks had ten more solo blocks (11-1) than did the 49ers.

The Hawks will look to continue their winning ways later today as they take on Solano Community College in Stockton.
