Hawks Win in Five Over Colts

SAN MATEO (8-30) - Cosumnes River played their first road match of the season as they took on Cañada College at the College of San Mateo. The Hawks came away with a 3-2 victory over the Colts

Both teams won their last match. The Hawks won 3-1 over Yuba College in Stockton on Friday while the Colts won 3-1 over Columbia College in Modesto on Saturday.

The first set was back and forth, but in the end, it was the Colts' defense that lead them to the first set victory. The Colts forced eight more errors in the set (11-3) and won the first set 25-20 to take a 1-0 lead. In the second set, the two teams would play another tight set but the Hawks used thirteen kills to win the set 27-25 and tied the match at 1-1. In the third set, the Hawks would lead the set from wire-to-wire on the strength of eight kills and only five errors to win the third set 25-13 and took a 2-1 lead in the match. In the fourth set, the Colts would outhit the Hawks .143 to .105 and won the set 25-21 to tie the set at 2-2. In the fifth set, the Hawks would have five more kills than the Colts (12-7) and won the set 16-14 and won the match 3-2. 

For Cosumnes River, Elizabeth Smith had twelve kills apiece and for Canada, Kaylin O'Leary had a match high sixteen kills. Rebakkah McLaughlin had twenty-four assists for Cosumnes River and Marianne Angelucci had a match high twenty-eight for Canada. McLaughlin led the Hawks with twenty-one digs and Camille Louie had a match high forty-five digs for the Colts.

For the match, Cosumnes River had a .125 hitting percentage with the best percentage coming in the fifth set at .270 while Canada had a .150 hitting percentage with the best percentage coming in the second set at .182. The Hawks had six more solo blocks (10-4) than did the Colts.

The Hawks will have two matches on their next game day. The Hawks will take on College of Marin and Columbia College on Friday at Clark Court.
