Hawks Come From Behind To Win Against Santa Rosa

SACRAMENTO (10-19) - In front of a big crowd, Cosumnes River pulled up an upset against Santa Rosa Junior College. The Hawks played off the energy of nearly 100 strong, using their home court as an advantage to come back, despite being down two sets to the Bear Cubs. The Hawks earned their second victory in conference.

The Hawks started off slow on offense before regrouping to fight hard against Santa Rosa. In a match that lasted a minute short of two hours, the Hawks fought throughout the entire match. At the conclusion of the match, Cosumnes River combined for fifty-four kills, eighty-one digs, six blocks and eight service aces. Three freshmen combined for double digit kills with another double-double being recorded for the Hawks' setter.

Ashanti Cason, Kylie Pires and Taryn Oberle combined for thirty nine of the fifty four kills for Cosumnes River. Ashanti Cason set a career high with eleven kills while hitting .370 during the five-set match. Oberle also set her season high with thirteen kills on thirty-one attempts which is a .258 hit percentage. Oberle was also part of two of the ten combo blocks for the Hawks' defense. Pires earned her seventh double-double of the season. During the five-set match, Pires added fifteen kills, seventeen digs, and contributed to three combo blocks. Rebakkah McLaughlin racked up her fourteenth double-double on the season including her fifth straight. McLaughlin set a season high with forty one assists while adding in fourteen digs.

The Hawks had four players with double digits in digs. McLaughlin and Pires were joined by Larissa Vogelbacher and Abigail Hicks. Hicks led the team with eighteen digs followed closely by Pires' seventeen digs. Vogelbacher contributed fifteen digs to the Hawks' strong defensive evening. Elizabeth Smith added a solo block and three assisted blocks for the Hawks' defense. Smith added three service aces keeping the Bear Cubs' offense from finding rhythm.
